Today Lia visited the orthotist Kirsten Gibson for measurements and fittings for a standing frame and splints to protect her tiny feet. The standing frame will give her core muscles time to get stronger as this is the biggest issue at the moment and its keeping her from learning to sit.
Kirsten made moulds of her tiny legs and measured her body for the frame. She mentioned that Lia is currently her third lissencephaly patient and that she is remarkable compared to the other two children (who are both much older than Lia). She said the standing frame will make such a difference in her development and confidence.
Lia was so good while Kirsten did all the scary things, I’m so proud of her. My medical aid have been so amazing. CAMAF confirmed they will be covering Lia’s standing frame and splints. I burst into tears when I found out.
